fried chicken for everyone!

birds fascinate me. they have two legs like us, but also fly. i'd say that they are beating us.

i was walking home today when i saw a church's chicken box abandoned in the middle of the road, probably someone's trash. a seagull was delicately picking through it, fighting through the greasy wax paper to lift out what looked like to be a hefty piece of deep fried skin. (score!) we made eye contact and he immediately backed away, hopping backwards until he was about two feet from the battered goodness. i stood my ground. i even motioned to him, "hey man, i'm just as happy for you as you are for yourself that you found such treasure."

apparently i do not speak his particular dialect and he flew up and away and down the street. at the streetlight he made a u-y and came swooping back towards the chicken box, this time somehow rounding up his buddies and bringing with him five other gulls. a block down i could hear a lot of excited chatter: "b-rooooock, b-rooooooock." they're democrats.

you know, i just realized that chicken is their kind, all winged and flying (though for chickens, ever briefly). do they feel weird eating it?
