cheese balls

the christmas gift exchange game holds a special place in my heart. i love it and look forward to it every year. in fact, one of my life goals is to make it a game that is played year round and appropriate for all seasons. part of what makes it fun is that you never can predict what will be the "winner" gift. it's like march madness; who knows?!

today at target while browsing the trashy snack section with a package of oreos already in my grubby little hands, i came across these and a big lightbulb went on in my head:

i personally think these cheese balls are amazing. does anyone remember when they came in that metal can with a seal? anyways, these cheese balls came in a huge container (it's the length of my forearm) and i can think of a certain gift exchange that this would be so so fun to bring to. as if the appeal of the product itself wasn't enough, the side of the container also reads: "After the snacks are gone, why not reuse this container? Use it as a building block or a container for loose crayons." Alright, you sold me.

while walking towards the register i came across at least two toddlers who pointed out the canister of cheese balls in my hands, expressing interest. one mom laughed and said "yup, those are cheese balls!" another mother quickly pushed the shopping cart with her little one inside away from view of the orange snacks. children love them!

i got home and j asked why i didn't buy one for us, too. i'm kind of tempted to stock up on these and give them out as gifts. put a large red bow on top like they do on car commercials and cement friendships, cheese ball by cheese ball.
