i happened upon the nytimes home page and "downturn" and "gloomy" were splashed all over the page. So to keep this blog from getting dreary and disheartening, instead I present you, lovely readers, with this:

This is my new favorite fruit. They are a mixed fruit, a hybrid. The particular variety that is sold at the local market is half tangerine, half grapefruit - Minneola. They taste like tangerines but have more sour punch (that's the grapefruit side kicking in). The skin is much like those little cuties that everyone likes, really easy to peel and as a result, really satisfying to peel. But beware, there are many little seeds.

I feel bad for them. How would you like to be known as the ugli girl? Tough life, for sure. Apparently they are famous for being deliciously and unbelievably juicy and sweet. First impressions can be so deceiving.
