circ - where not everything checks out
i love people's idiosyncracies. there is nothing funnier to me than a really good impersonation of someone i know. it's funnie because a good impersonation often boils down to one or few little things that only that person would do, a slight inflection in the voice, a tilt of the head, or a slight turn of expression. it's absolutely brilliant. bad imitations, they fall flat because there's nothing distinguishing the imitator from just doing funnie voices; you gotta get to the essence.
btw, if we are friends, i have already probably thought about how to imitate you, or actually have tried when telling a story. also btw, i am bad at doing impressions and probably can not really imitate you all that well anyways. with the exception of alex, i do a good alex. : D
for that reason, on a slow saturday while working the circulation desk at the school library, my supervisor and i came up with the brilliant idea of writing a sitcom about the adventures of the library circulation desk.
it is going to be called "Circ" (imagine it in courier new font, and the opening credits will be a typewriter spelling that out), and it will be styled more after the "mary tyler moore show" with the laugh track than "the office." the tag line for advertising will be "where not everything checks out." GET IT?
all the characters will be based on real people who work at the circ desk, or people who work at the library, and notable patrons. The people who work at the circ desk are real characters, we are all so different in personality. It's amazing when we get together for meetings because we probably all would not be friends if not for the circ desk, yet all ten or so of us always find time to hang out at the circ desk and chat with each other. i also like to think that troy binds us together. we're a lovely ensemble. of course, for the actual show, every character will need to be exagerrated a little bit so they're more of a caricature of each person. we had the best time hashing over how different people would react to different situations and stimuli.
we have a few good story lines going so far, and we have tons of characters; we might need to make a spin off show. since sergio seems to have sold his sinking cafe, this will be our next surefire win of a business venture. fyi, i am trademarking "Circ - where not everything checks out" as we speak. I am just kidding. but forrealz, don't steal our idea. it is my ticket outta here...onto the money train, WOO WOO!
