stuff i find on the street

awhile back i wrote about finding a child size guitar on the side of the street. as predicted, it did nothing but take up room in my rental unit. i took it for a spin a few times but ultimately donated it to the local thrift store. i'm still waiting to find a macbook pro on the street haha. my friend has had better luck and a day after his own record turntable broke, found the exact same model, rare and unbroken, on his way to work. lucky kid.

today i went to the market to buy some tofu and tomatoes to make soup for dinner. across from the entrance of the market was a pile of old toys in a box, as well as a stack of straw baskets. on top of the other ratty and matted stuffed toys was a cabbage patch kids box, and inside, a little blonde doll with blue eyes. the box said it was made in 1985, but it was missing the certificate so i couldn't find out its special and unique name as given by the Patch. my mom said that cabbage patch kids were king in the eighties. when i was a baby there would be super long lines of parents clamoring to get their hands on a doll for their kids. my parents got a hold of one for me but i promptly lost it sometime soon after. they're kind of awesome and i looked at some of the newer ones that they sell in the store and i guess they've kind of run out of the more common names 'cause they seem to be digging deep to give every one a unique name.

i clutched the doll in its box and walked home, and as i was inspecting it in the elevator, i had a strange urge to take it out of the box and hug it. i refrained, but for a few moments i remembered how comforting a doll or plush toy could be to clutch. she currently lives on our balcony in her little box and i'm still thinking what i'm going to do with it. i thought about ebay, but i'm not sure if the effort would be worth the potential, if any, financial gain.

she kinda looks like this.
