awesome

Pre-wedding, all I had were cheap, dull knives. Which is cool for my purposes because the hardest thing I'm really chopping is carrots and I had gotten used to doing a slight pulling motion when cutting meat. (which, if you are doing, i hear is totally unsafe. sharpen your knife or get a new one.) Post-wedding, we received these glorious knives that were sharp and substantial and i assume able to carve through a deer/chicken/shark with ease.

i usually chop with the cheap knives because then when i'm done i can throw them in the sink guilt free without the feeling that i'm a horrible knife mother because i've exposed my knife children to rust and grime. the glorious knives, i have to immediately wash them and make sure they are dry before carefully placing them back in their wood-swaddle.

long story shorter, i ran out of clean knives and had nothing to chop the carrots with and decided to unleash one of the chi-chi knives and in the midst of chopping managed to lightly swipe the tip of the blade against the side of my middle finger. now normally, my faithful cheap-o knives would make a slight scratch and i'd rub my finger a little and be done with it, but being that this is an EFFECTIVE knife and you know, cuts good, i made a really awesome cut on my finger and watched blood seep out, first hesitantly, and then with full gusto a few moments later. i ran my finger under water and threw the knife in the sink ("BAD KNIFE BAD KNIIIIIIFE!") and upon closer examination saw that it was a pretty shallow cut, though pretty high achiever and making quite a little spill even after i put the band-aid on.

bah.

those very nice sharp knives are dangerous...I've nicked myself a lot in the past 3 months and I've even made shallow cuts into my fingernail...which is really gross come to think of it.
