yes! asians! yes!

for the past couple of days i've been frantically working on my race law class paper: asian americans, from foreigners to presidents. it's based on an initial inquiry that i had while watching the latest presidential election - when will an asian american be elected president of the united states? i went through a lot of data and research that looked to voter particpation among asian americans, to the election of asian americans to public office. did you know that asians only make up just under 5% of the us population? not huge numbers by any means and frankly not much of a formidable voting bloc. i posted a note on my facebook page and some asian american classmates commented on the likelihood of an asian president within their lifetimes - most were unsure of that happening. though there have been several prominent asian american political figures (bobby jindal, norman mineta, gary locke), they remain few and far between.

nevertheless, i was DELIGHTED to find out that steven chu is most likely to be nominated to the post of secretary of energy and that eric shinseki has been appointed secretary of veterans affairs. jumping up and down. president, here we come!!!!
