my socks spark joy pt 2

so, i've drunk the koolaid and am now exclaiming over the wonders of this book.

while reading the book i had been itching to do a clean purge of my clothes for a week and one quiet friday night i couldn't take it anymore and i pulled all my clothes from the closet. after deliberating for half an hour, i came up with these two piles, the joy-less pile is in the back. i'd say i got rid of half my clothes.

i rolled up most of my clothes and hung up dresses and lighter tops, and voila!

i should've taken a "before" picture but i was too embarrassed so here's a paint rendering of what it looked like before. this is pretty ugly, but i think you get the picture, clothes all over the place, couldn't see the floor.

all my clothes now fit very tidily in those plastic drawers on the left and the half rod on the right. each drawer is only half filled; before i was stuffing the drawers to capacity, couldn't shut them and them and had tons of clothes billowing out. also, this will probably sound kind of woo woo but the author recommends putting the "heaviest" clothing to the left and getting "lighter" as you move right because it feels better and more uplifting, think of a graph with an arrow rising towards the right. she's right.

my parents were skeptical because i have been living in disarray for the past three decades, how could i suddenly be reformed? well here i am, three weeks out, and i have to say it feels so much better to have my clothes tidy. everything has a place so it's easy to find everything and i don't waste time digging around in my pile for the shirt i want to wear that day. i've even gotten into the practice of cleaning out my purse when i get home so that my purses are completely emptied out every night. goodbye to the ever-growing piles of receipts, pens, chapsticks, and paper at the bottom of my purse! i can't imagine going back.

overall, yes there's some woo woo to the guidance in the book (i haven't been thanking my possessions for their faithful service and good work), but she does make some valid points that i think are good jumping off points for how you view and value your possessions.
