tonight i am making borscht

my nose is running, AGAIN. Currently, my nose alternates between running and feeling uncomfortably itchy and tickly as it anticipates a sneeze; however, the rest of me feels fine. It's as if the germs decided to barricade themselves in my sinus cavities, leaving only to drip out my nose. It's really fantastic.

usually, whenever i feel a cold coming on, I will eat a giant bag of carrot sticks, which usually does the trick to fend off whatever germs are starting to camp out. i was kind of late on the draw this time around so i'm going to plan b and making soup for dinner tonight.

tonight i am making borscht! which is a tomato-y soup with carrots, beef, celery, onions, and potato(e)s. i have never made it myself, but i'm thinking and hoping that it will help my nose feel better. it is also delicious. I bought most of the produce already, but i gotta run to safeway right now and get the tomato paste and chicken broth. wish me luck!

i read somewhere that chinese people invented that just to get people to gulp down ginger. so in theory, you can just make the soup for tong yuen (hot water, brown sugar that looks like a garden wafer, 2 pieces of ginger).
