sister of the groom

my brother is married!

it was a beautiful day and my family was so happy. c is a wonderful girl and now she is officially part of our family! table for six, please.

it's crazy because in my head my brother will always be about 12 years old, so it's hard to imagine him with a wife and a wedding band. i got to say a few words at the bridal shower and i surprised myself by breaking into tears; it is a privilege to be his sister.

on a lighter note, i had a tough time looking for a dress to wear to the wedding. the wedding couple originally planned it to be a long formal dress affair but it got more casual as the date neared. i tried googling "sister of the groom dress" and came across some really challenging pinterest boards. i feel like when it comes to formal dresses there's a broad spectrum with many options on the opposite sides, but a dearth of good choices in between; i.e., i don't want a mother of the bride dress, but i also don't want to look like i'm going clubbing. i also didn't want to skirt the bridesmaid line and look like a wannabe bridesmaid. after scouring various online and in store choices, i settled on renting a dress from Rent the Runway, which turned out to be a fantastic choice: forty dollars, they ups-ed it to me with two size options, and i stuck it back in a ups drop box the following monday. this dress also won't take up any room in my closet, i spent less than what i would've paid if i bought it, and it's a much nicer dress than i could've afforded. so brilliant.
