where i cold brew folgers and fool no one
we've been experimenting with cold brewing coffee. per america's test kitchen, you put equal parts volume of coffee grounds with water in a french press, cover with saran wrap and steep for 24 hours in room temperature. voila you now have a coffee concentrate that you can add cold or hot water to. sprinkle a little kosher salt and it cuts through the acidity nicely.
~beans on the left, coffee concentrate on the right. yeah, it's a lot of beans for not that much output~
at work we've been using local artisan beans to great results, so i thought i was so clever when i brought in concentrate made from "black silk" folgers grounds. in my head everyone was going to drink the concentrate, forsake the blue bottle beans we'd been drinking, and pledge allegiance to this new mystery bean. i would then triumphantly (and with great flourish and a touch of smug) unveil the folgers and present this american staple as indeed the best part of waking up.
so, no dice. i carefully watched everyone's reaction and it ranged from "did you put liquor in this?" to weary suspicion. better luck next time.
