book club update and the start of another club

last month's discussion about "unbroken" went great and we're now off to another book for july:

it's a post-apocalyptic novel about a travelling band of shakesperean actors. i was reading it before i went to sleep at night and it got eerie so i had to switch to reading at my desk during lunch where it was light out and lots of people were around. not that it's a particularly creepy book, i'm just a scaredy-cat.

right after station eleven was chosen as the next book, i rushed to reserve a copy at our local library and was able to secure the large print version. my fellow book-clubber also rushed to the library website and saw that it was already spoken for. "Allison!" she exclaimed with a fist, a la Jerry's "Newman!"

we've also started up a lunchtime fitness club at work. our first workout a group of us went to the park and a co-worker led some high intensity exercises for about half an hour. we borrowed my boss' bluetooth speaker on wheels and played beyonce. it was pretty involved (jumping lunges, high knees running) and everyone left with sweaty heads. the second outing i dubbed "walking with friends" and we took a leisurely walk to the water and back. group mingling was encouraged, with such icebreaker questions as "when was the last time you went for a walk," and "who is your best friend at work?" our most recent workout was today and someone led exercises from the "insanity" workout. again, great workout, sweaty heads. all in all, it's been such a fun group and we've had as many as 17 people come out at one time. once we secure a ball, i think our next session will be basketball.
