running club

i've never been a fast runner. i joined track in high school and found myself running LONG DISTANCE of all things (2 mile races on the track) and really being miserable but being too meek and non-confrontational to just quit and hold onto what little dignity i had. for practices we would run uphill and on trails and it was so painful. one of my other teammates commented that she really loved the pain and struggle of running; i had and have no idea what she was talking about. it got to the point where i would lie about having a stomachache or pretend to have violin lessons (and duck behind bushes) so i could skip practices. (i know, i know...I'm awful)

fast forward 15 years and the gym i go to has been holding "run club" sessions where the group goes for a two mile run outside. i decided to have a go at it one night because my usual class had gotten canceled and it seemed like such a letdown to just go home or to wander around target instead. and can you believe, i am now a really fast runner and led the group?

of course not. out of the group of fifteen i was near last and the instructor had to keep on waiting for me to catch up; she ran back and forth to make sure i didn't get lost. since then i've gone about 4 times to the thursday run club - i'm still in the back of the group but i hope to be able to pass some folks soon!
