three good things

1. Laura Bush, "Spoken from the Heart."

I read a novel loosely based on Laura Bush's life and was really interested to see how it compared to her actual life. Regardless of how you might feel about her husband's politics, Laura Bush is a beautiful writer. I especially loved her descriptions of growing up in Texas.

2. Dr. Bronner's 18 in 1 Pure Castile Soap

this is a great soap and it's 100% organic. it claims 18 uses, and i've been using it as a body wash, face wash, hand soap, to mop our floors, and to wipe countertops. it's so pure that you can even use it as a mouthwash or toothpaste, if you don't mind the soap taste. i got a pretty large bottle at trader j's and it only takes a few drops to get a good lather. i imagine it'll last us awhile. i tried it as shampoo but my hair came out very flat and even more uninspired than usual. other than that snafoo, it's terrific!!!!

3. bo kho recipe, Andrea Nguyen "Into the Vietnamese Kitchen"

we've been on a fun asian food cooking run and i checked out two terrific cookbooks at the library, one for thai food and the other for vietnamese food. i'll write about the thai food some other time, but this recipe for vietnamese beef stew was SO GOOD AND EASY TO MAKE! it was published in the wall street journal, link here: http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424127887323936804578227681483271650

make it tonight, you won't be sorry!!!!
