great things
hi everyone, happy may! i can't believe it's already month five in the year 2013 - where has all the time gone? ::throws hands up in the air::
anyhoo, here's some things i find really great:
1. warby parker glasses - if you haven't heard about them yet, they're this glasses company that has figured out how to eliminate the middleman, allowing the everyman to buy cool glasses on the cheap via the internet. so, for $95 you can get a complete set of glasses (prescription lenses and frames) shipped to your home. watch vid here: http://www.nytimes.com/video/2013/03/31/business/100000002133838/warby-parkers-simple-sell.html
i got a pair last month and i love them! i had to pay a little extra to get the thinner high index lenses (read: i have AWFUL eyesight) so that i wouldn't look like i had coke bottles as lenses but even with that everything came out to $120ish. i can see really well with them and the customer service was really terrific. nothing to sneeze at!
2. curry - one of the perks of working in chinatown is that there is an overabundance of cheap, but generally fairly tasty, food. i'm usually pretty good about it and will eat home-food, but sometimes it's just so tempting to ditch the pyrex lunch and join in the eating out fun with co-workers! the current fave is curry. there are a couple of good chinese curry places around work so we've been eating it at least once a week for the past month or so. the jury is still out on which is the best curry place, depending on what meat you're into. today i reminded my coworker molly* (not her real name) that tomorrow's lunch special (free drink!) was beef curry stew and her face immediately looked stricken at the thought of eating curry again. i think tomorrow will be a bye-week.
(i just realized that the title of this section could also be a shout-out to our brave warriors but sorry fans, this is just a post about chinatown.)
3. aerobics classes - i recently joined a gym because i was feeling very lethargic and because my morning "runs" were turning into leisurely walks to peet's. so i joined and now i go to fun group aerobics classes two or three times a week. there's lots of clapping and high knees - the instructor for one class in particular likes it when the class bunches in close together so that we can all jog with high knees and feed off one another's energy. "i want to see the white of your eyes!" she screams. that's when i look down. there's also this one class called bodycombat that is supposed to simulate fighting. as motivation, they shout at you that someone's approaching from behind and we need to fight them off with roundhouse kicks! at any rate, these classes get me through an hour of cardio and weight lifting, so no complaints here!
