10 years have not taught me much
as a teenager, i was a terrible driver. i'm still not great, but as a teenager, i was seriously the pits. when taking the test, i got marked down because i couldn't make a proper left turn. for whatever reason that move confused me, and thank goodness i figured it out otherwise i'd still be driving around in one big fat circle in some sort of eternal torture of right turns.
today i drove to jelli's parents' house to pick up a printer. years ago when i had just gotten my driver's license, i was driving back home from jelli's and stopped at a T - intersection. being fairly cavalier about my driving because i was cool like that i briefly stopped and proceeded to make the turn (a left, dangit) when mare (in the passenger seat, brave girl) screamed. a truck coming down the top of the T came into my view, narrowly missing my car that was stupidly jutting out and poised for the turn. as he passed, the driver stuck his face out, red and flushed.
"YOU IDIOT!" shaking his fist.
when leaving jelli's house today i reflected on how nice high school was and how i missed everyone and while floating on my cloud of nostalgia i found myself on the receiving end of two elderly woman glares, making the same mistake at the same T-intersection. i smiled because i felt like i was in high school again.
