nature
i was on my way to the library this morning, calmly walking and crossing the street so that i'd walk in the shade. i've been wearing my glasses more lately because i've been too lazy to get an eye appt so that i can get an updated prescription and order more contacts. what i really need is a pair of those sunglasses that go over my regular glasses, but my pride and cheapness is too big so i've just been averting my eyes whenever i glaze over shiny spots and seeking cover in the shade where those spots are fewer.
yesterday walking home from the library i walked through a certain spot where there were lots of dead animals, many more than i'm used to seeing in a city setting. there were two dead birds (and decomposing nicely, might i add) and one mouse-like creature all in the span of about ten feet. i bent down to look at one of them and almost hurled. ah, the circle of life.
this morning i crossed over that area again and because it's heavily shaded by lots of trees, i decided to venture through it, thinking it pleasant. it dawned on me halfway through that there was probably a very good reason for the huge amounts of bird poop spotting the sidewalk and it wasn't because the birds very carefully swooped down to the ground and gently defecated. no, they are aerial creatures and like to hang out in trees. i heard all this chirping and for a brief moment relished in the untainted beauty of nature, also taking a deep breath to savor (okay, no it smelled like a pet store) the scents of our feathered friends. i exhaled, and felt something wet on my forearm.
luckily, i had rolled up my sleeves, no big deal, i kept on walking and when i got to the library made a beeline for the bathroom and washed all the way up to my elbows.
nature is our friend!
