a present for lai lai

I went to the Gardener the other day (chi chi gardening and housewares store in Berkeley) and saw these cute little potted bulbs for sale. they're called narcissus bulbs, and people often grow them for chinese new year. there were some samples at the store and they grow to about a foot high and look like skinny daffodils with white petals and an interesting scent. the little green sprouts uptop the bulbs are where the flowers bloom from. the bulbs sit on top of rocks or pebbles, and then the pot is filled with water so that the bulbs just sit on top of the water and rocks.

The styling was super cute and tasteful, the price was not. So I set about putting one together myself and succeeded in doing it for about 1/3 of the price. i got the little pot, the bulbs, and the rocks and put together a present for lai lai (my new mother in law). i hope it grows, and i hope she likes it.
