allie in boots

last year i bought a pair of rainboots. in the event that it rained and i had to walk to school, they would be invaluable to keeping my feet and socks dry. wet socks and shoes are like, the worst thing in the world. i once spent a pretty miserable hour and a half marinating in wet socks and running shoes because i sloshed through a very wet telegraph street where it was raining very hard to get to english class. i spent a good portion of that class trying not to think too much about my wet socks while also contemplating just taking off my shoes and socks to try to air dry them as best i could. i eventually gave in and took them off but trust me, had a bully of a time trying to force them back on later. in retrospect, what an unclassy thing to do. gosh i am such a bumpkin.

so when i moved to san francisco, i said "no more!" and bought a pair of rainboots. on sale, no less. they are violet colored with two broad yellow stripes and one purple strip at the top. they are delicious.

so today when i awoke to the strong patterings of rain against my window i said "oh boy today is a good day for boots" and when i sloshed to school, taking special care to walk through the especially juicy puddles (because I could) i thanked my lucky stars that i owned these boots and that they were on my feet at that very moment, protecting and shielding my wide feet from wet and cold.

i had also packed my trusty and busting at the seams slip on vans because though my boots are very cute, they are also made of rubber and it gets very warm inside them and i need to switch out my shoes when i get to school lest my feet and calves get uncomfortably warm. so i pulled off my boots in the maritime office and pulled on my vans, once again congratulating myself on my boots and now on my trusty vans which would be so comfy to wear around school.

after pulling on my shoes, i decided to trek across the way to the library so that i could fill my thermos up with hot water so i could enjoy a nice cup of tea during ethics. halfway across the outside walkway that led to the library, i realized that i had a fat hole in the bottom of my vans because i now felt a wet spot on the bottom of my sock. i tried so hard to keep dry! haha.

my solution upon return was to walk on my heel on my left foot so as not to needlessly press my exposed shoe back onto the wet cement. limp limp. the wet spot has since dried off. huzzah.
